#AskVega FAQ: Can I heat Vega products?

Have a question we haven’t answered yet? Post using #AskVega and we’ll get right to it!

Q: “Can I heat my Vega products?”

A: Short answer? It depends. Since our ingredients are minimally-processed (I like to say, “raw where possible, and heated when necessary”), when heated, they may lose some of their nutritional value (for example, the protein in our smoothie products degrades slightly when heated—not significantly, but with some nutritional loss when compared to unheated product). The good news here is that Vega One is super nutrient dense, so even when heated you’ll still be getting a great bang for your nutritional buck.

Sometimes it’s nice to switch it up and try out a new way to use your Vega products. And you know what?  There are some benefits to heating certain ingredients. Our Vega Maca is heated (in fact gelatinized) to make it more easily digestible. Maca was traditionally boiled by ancient Peruvians before consuming...pretty neat, huh?!

While we happily use our smoothie products and maca in baked or cooked recipes, one product we don’t recommend heating is Vega Antioxidant Omega Oil—the blend of virgin oils is best used as a finishing oil.If you’re ready to start experimenting in the kitchen you seriously need to check out my Strawberry Protein Waffles recipe.
