Cauliflower Steak with Roasted Red Pepper & Caramelized Onion Relish

Cauliflower Steak

Oh cauliflower, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee riced, mashed, pureed, roasted, steamed. And now I love thee as steaks. Yes, that’s right, replace beef with a thick and hearty cauliflower steak. Each head of cauliflower makes four steaks, and a delightful dinner.


  • Roasted Red Pepper and Caramelized Onion Relish
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 red onion, finely diced
  • 1 Tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped fine
  • 1 roasted red pepper, peeled, seeded and finely diced
  • ½ tsp fresh thyme
  • Salt and pepper
  • Cauliflower Steak Ingredients
  • 1 large cauliflower
  • Olive oil, as needed
  • Salt and pepper
  • Optional: garlic or onion powder


  1. Roasted Red Pepper and Caramelized Onion Relish

    1. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook slowly until caramelized.
    2. Deglaze pan with white wine vinegar. Add in garlic, roasted red peppers and thyme. Cooking for another 5 minutes or until thick.
    3. Season with salt and pepper and allow to cool.
  2. Cauliflower Steaks

    1. Preheat oven to 375F.
    2. Cut cauliflower head in half and then cut each half into 2 ¾ inch steaks.
    3. Season each steak.
    4. In a frying pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear each side of cauliflower steaks until golden about 3-4 minutes.
    5. Transfer each steak to a baking sheet. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until tender.
    6. Serve with Red Pepper and Caramelized Onion Relish
