As the temperature starts to decrease, my body begins to crave warming foods, but that doesn’t mean all cooked meals. Ginger root can actually warm the body preparing you for athletic performance or keeping you comfortable in the winter months while still enjoying your cold morning smoothies. I added in a seasonal persimmon which is loaded with vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that supports the immune system. This incredibly quick and easy smoothie is a great start to the winter morning with reminiscent notes of cinnamon and ginger during the holiday season.
More about Persimmons:
- There are two classes of persimmons: taller acorn-shaped Hachiyas, and plump round, tomato-shaped Fuyus. Either will work in this smoothie, but if using Hachiya make sure it is completely soft to the touch before eating. You do not have to peel or de-seed either persimmon.
- To freeze: Clean your persimmon under running water. Dry with a towel. Slice into quarters. Store in a freezer-safe container until ready to make this smoothie.
- Although persimmons are in season, if you can’t find one, add a frozen banana instead
