Since the beginning of Vega, when what is now Vega One was launched (then called “Complete Whole Food Meal Replacement”) way back in 2004, we’ve been striving to make our top-selling product USDA Organic. While the name and formula of this flagship product have seen several iterations, this is the first time we’re able to make it completely USDA Organic. This is something our consumers have been asking for since day 1 in the fall of 2004, and we couldn’t be prouder of where we are today. There are several reasons you may want to choose organic, among them being improved water quality, energy conservation, increased biodiversity, and soil health. For more information on organic certification, you can visit the USDA’s website.
If organic isn’t your thing, currently Vega One is our only organic protein powder. If you’d like help deciding exactly which product is right for you, let’s talk!
Vega One is a food—so you can enjoy it anytime you would eat other foods you love—meals, snacks or anywhere in between. Check the Nutrition Facts Panel to ensure that it has the amounts of macro and micronutrients that you are looking for.
We love this question because we get to talk about nutrient density (AKA the amount of nutrients compared to calories). Vega One is a nutrient dense food, so you can use it any way that you would use a food. You can enjoy it on its own or as a part of your favorite smoothie. You can even cook with it, making pancakes or muffins (and you can find recipes at MyVega.com/recipes). Vega One tastes great, and offers 20 grams plant-based protein, veggies and greens, and 4 grams fiber in 150 calories. If you’re trying to lose weight, consult your health care practitioner to know what’s right for you.
Even good things should be enjoyed in moderation and we suggest you eat Vega One as part of a balanced diet. If you have questions about your specific nutrition needs, it’s best to talk to your health care practitioner.
Vega One is proudly green. With organic spinach, organic kale, organic spinach, and organic spirulina, Vega One comes by that beautiful, rich green hue honestly. No food coloring added! You may notice that it’s even greener once you add water. That’s because spirulina is highly soluble and dissolves in water. You just can’t camouflage awesome.
The approximate value (which may change based on natural variations in the plant-based ingredients):
• Vega One Chocolate flavor contains less than 1/10 mg of caffeine from cocoa powder per serving.
• Vega One Mocha flavor contains about 1 mg of caffeine from the flavor extraction process from coffee beans and chocolate
As reference, one 8 oz/250ml cup of coffee has between 75-200 mg of caffeine in it.
We’ve added stevia to Vega One because it is our favorite sweetener. Stevia is plant-based and contains no calories, and we think it adds a delightfully sweet flavor to Vega One and other Vega plant-based protein powders. If you can taste the stevia, try adding a squirt of lemon juice or a handful of dark leafy greens to your Vega One smoothie. Or even better, give our Plain Unsweetened flavor a try!
The other vitamin and mineral content is inherent in the other whole food ingredients in the formula, but here are the main contributors to the key vitamins:
• Vitamin A: organic carrot juice powder
• Vitamin C: organic acerola cherry juice powder, organic blueberry juice powder, and organic cranberry juice powder
• Vitamin D: organic mushroom powder
• Vitamin K: organic spinach powder, organic kale powder, organic chard powder, organic lettuce powder
The amino acids in Vega One Organic aren’t added but rather are naturally occurring from the ingredients in the blend. We do not test for individual amino acids, only the overall protein content. We're happy to let you know that we use a multisource plant-based protein blend that offers 20 grams of protein (which has all essential amino acids) per serving. We understand reviewing specific amino acids is important to you so we’re happy to offer you the typical amino acid profile. This is the typical Amino Acid profile calculated from supplier information for Vega One Organic. These values may vary slightly between flavors and lots.
Typical Amino Acid Profile per Serving (grams)
Aspartic Acid 2.4
Glutamic Acid 3.2
