Lean Green Apple Smoothie - Eat Spin Run Repeat3

Do you have any habits from your childhood that you still hang on to today? I certainly do. Ever since I was old enough to have a “big girl bed”, my mum always mandated that I make it every single day before going to school. If I didn’t the consequence was losing half of my weekly allowance, and that was a big deal when it was only $10! Other rules included making my school lunch the night before, ironing my own clothes ever since I was old enough to be taught, and giving my bathroom a thorough cleaning every weekend.

For some, moving out of their parents’ homes means no longer having to follow rules. But you know what? To this day, I still make my bed every day, prepare my lunch for work the evening before, and clean my bathroom on the weekends. If my mum ever reads this, I’m sure she’ll be proud!

Another habit I’ve keep up: An apple a day. When I was a kid, I had a bedtime ritual of reading for half an hour in my bed, Granny Smith apple in hand. I loved the tart, crunchy crispness of these, and I’d eat every little bit off the core. These days I can’t say I always have 30 minutes of leisurely reading time before bed, but I do still maintain my apple a day habit. It’s a super easy way to keep my fruit and veggie intake up.

This smoothie is sweet, with that classic tartness of a Granny Smith apple. If these are strangers to your blender, trust me, avocados are fantastic additions to any smoothie! Not only do they help to create a gorgeous smooth texture (perfect if you’ve accidentally added too much ice), but they’re also mild in taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 serving Vanilla Vega® Essentials
  • or 1 serving French Vanilla Vega One™ Nutritional Shake
  • or 1 serving Vanilla Vega® Protein & Greens

  • 1 cup Silk® Unsweetened Almondmilk
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, cored
  • 1/4 ripe avocado, pitted and skin removed
  • 1 lime, skin completely removed, flesh only
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 6 ice cubes

Preparation

  1. Add all ingredients except ice to your blender. Blend until smooth.

  2. Blend in the ice cubes until no chunks remain.
