What is Maca?

Organic, traditionally grown in the Andean highlands and sustainably harvested in partnership with Peruvian farmers, Vega Maca helps to balance, invigorate and energize. You can use Vega Maca to:

  • Promote vitality
  • Contribute to a feeling of overall well-being
  • Maintain good health
  • Provide antioxidant support7Sandoval, M. Et al., Antioxidant activity of the cruciferous vegetable Maca (Lepdidium meyenii). Food Chemistry 79 (2002) 207–213.

Also widely known as Peruvian ginseng, maca shows great potential as an adaptogen, according to foremost maca researcher G. Gonzales8Gonzales G, Ethnobiology and Ethnopharmacology of Lepidium meyenii (Maca), a Plant from the Peruvian Highlands. Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2012.. This adaptogenic potential may account for the balancing, energizing and stress-reducing effects reported by some maca users. Maca is also an excellent, plant-based source of vitamin B12, providing 70% of your daily value of B12 (as cyanocobalamin).

  • Grown Organically Using Fair Labor Practices

Maca is an exceptionally hardy root plant native to the Andean mountain plateaus of Peru. In spite of the poor volcanic soil and harsh environmental conditions in which it grows, maca is rich in amino acids, phytonutrients, and important vitamins and minerals. Organic Vega Maca is traditionally grown in the Andean highlands and sustainably harvested in partnership with Peruvian farmers

  • Gelatinized to Increase Absorption

The whole maca root undergoes a proprietary gelatinization process. Gelatinization uses heat to concentrate the active micronutrients within, and improve absorption by breaking down starches in the root, making it easier for your body to digest and assimilate. Peruvians traditionally boiled their maca to reap many of the same benefits. Gelatinization is vegan and has nothing to do with gelatin.

  • Traditional Uses for Maca

Ancient, native Peruvians used maca for thousands of years as both a food and a tonic. They believed maca increased energy and stamina, improved fertility and enhanced libido. Grown at 14,000 feet in an extreme climate of freezing cold, fierce winds and intense sunlight, maca is resilient. Herbalists believe that resilient plants are especially valuable; from a herbological perspective, maca’s resiliency is unmatched.
