Vega Named Best Workplace for Women, and Second Best Place to Work Overall

Great Place to Work® and The Globe & Mail announce rankings of Best Places to Work in Canada

BURNABY, BC – For the sixth year in a row, Vega has been named one of Canada’s Best Places to Work.

The 2016 list, produced by Great Place to Work® and published by The Globe & Mail, awarded Vega the #2 spot among medium-sized companies, climbing from #4 in 2015. In addition, Vega was named the Best Workplace for Women for the second year in a row.

Vancouver-based Vega, a leader in clean plant-based nutrition, attributes its success to its vibrant Vegatopia culture. Vega employees (called Vegatopians) across North America live and embody the Vegatopia lifestyle and thrive in a performance-driven workplace, while being lifestyle leaders in their community.  “It’s about developing programs and benefits that empower employees to thrive in their personal lives, as well as in the workplace,” said Shiah Bazeley Director, People & Culture, at Vega.

Vega is truly an environment that has a strong belief in putting people first and is committed to creating a workplace that empowers Vegatopians to thrive.  From personal goal-setting programs, to on-site yoga and bootcamp classes, to a smoothie and healthy snack bar, to “Sqaut-o-clock” where all employees stop what they are doing and perform squats for 2 minutes, Vega has a culture that promotes balanced wellness and a healthy lifestyle.

Additionally, offering an environment for women in the workplace that provides equal opportunities, career development, maternity and parental support, as well as flexibility at the workplace, has allowed Vega to receive the best workplace honors.

“At Vega, we understand that parenting isn’t just one person’s responsibility,” said Bazeley. “Fathers are also encouraged to take advantage of Vega’s flexible environment – and this is role-modeled at the most senior levels.”

The award identifies companies that have created a culture where employees trust management, have pride in what they do, and enjoy the people with whom they work, according to the Great Place to Work Award announcement. Independent research by the Russell Investment Group is also factored into the award, which shows the correlation between high-trust workplace cultures and financial performance.  Great Place to Work measures trust through an employee survey, the Trust Index© survey, as well as a Culture Audit©.
