The plant-based protein blend, rice meal, water and sunflower oil are mixed and fed into an extruder (think of like a pasta maker). High pressure and heat are applied before the blend gets pushed out of the extruder. Once the crisp is extruded, the drop in pressure causes it to expand rapidly and twist a bit into their fun shape. Next it is cut in length, and then baked. Fun fact: another product in your pantry that uses a similar process is puffed cereal.
Similar to how a potato chip bag may appear to be half empty, the bags contain a bit of air to help ensure it’s not a pile of protein crumbs when it gets to your pantry. You are always getting the nutrition, and serving size, listed on the nutrition facts panel.
Vega® Protein Crisps are a food so you can eat them whenever you’d eat other foods. I believe in variety in foods, so personally, I only eat a bag a day.
Vega® Protein Crisps contain quite a bit more protein than most chips—15 grams per bag! They’re also baked while most chips are fried.
The amino acids in Vega® Protein Crisps aren’t added but rather are naturally occurring from the ingredients in the blend. We do not test for individual amino acids, only the overall protein content. We understand reviewing specific amino acids is important to you so we’re happy to offer you the typical amino acid profile, calculated from supplier information. These values may vary slightly between lots.
