What to eat before, during, and after your workout

What to eat before, during, and after your workout

Whether you’re hitting the weights for some strength training or hitting the road to train for your next PR, how you fuel your body can help take your performance to the next level. Carbohydrates, electrolytes and protein are all important components of an effective sports nutrition plan, and while whole foods are a great source of natural fuel, sport nutrition products – particularly ones without artificial flavors and sweeteners – can be a convenient way to ensure you are well-fueled and ready to train like you mean it.

Your PreWorkout Energy: Vega Sport® Energizer

Before you start exercising, you’ll want fast-acting, energy to help power your workout. With 100mg caffeine and , this is where Vega Sport Energizer comes in. Now, you can get caffeine and carbohydrates to help fuel your workout from real, plant-based food ingredients.

WHAT’S IN IT?

Caffeine

Vega Sport® Premium Energizer packs 100mg of caffeine per serving. Most of that caffeine comes from organic coffee fruit extract, which is sourced from the fruit of the coffee plant. We also use caffeine from green tea.

Caffeine’s effects depend on the individual, but it can help  support energy and focus for your training session.

Premium Carbohydrates

Vega Sport® Premium Energizer uses coconut palm sugar and brown rice syrup as the source of premium carbohydrates. Coconut sugar retains more nutrients than white sugar or high fructose corn syrup; it may also cause a slightly lower, steadier release of glucose.

Brown rice syrup is composed nearly entirely of glucose. Glucose is a fast-acting energy source, because glucose can be metabolized by every cell in the body: fructose can only be metabolized in significant amounts by the liver. When glucose – which is stored as glycogen – is depleted, muscles can become fatigued. Consuming carbs may help prevent hitting the wall due to lack of glycogen.

If you’re looking for something sugar-free, choose Vega Sport

YOUR MIDWORKOUT HYDRATION: VEGA SPORT® HYDRATOR

When sweat starts to drip off your face, you’re not just losing water, you’re also losing electrolytes. The amount of water and electrolytes you lose depends on the temperature, humidity and type of activity. Rather than wait until you start to feel dizzy, or start cramping, it’s best to hydrate consistently throughout your workout. Electrolytes help regulate our fluid balance, blood pH, heart, nerve, and muscle function. An adequate supply of electrolytes is required to keep all systems running smoothly.

When you’re sweating during exercise, you’ll want to hydrate quickly and efficiently, but you don’t want to overload on artificial flavors and sweeteners. Vega Sport® Hydrator helps replenish your electrolytes and vitamin C, without loading up on sugar or preservatives.

WHAT’S IN IT?

We designed Vega Sport®Hydrator as a mid-workout hydration assist. That’s why every serving has higher levels of sodium (230mg) than potassium (115mg), magnesium (20mg), or calcium (50mg) – sweat contains substantial amounts of sodium, with lesser amounts of other electrolytes.

POST-WORKOUT: VEGA SPORT® RECOVERY & VEGA SPORT® PREMIUM PROTEIN

VEGA SPORT® RECOVERY

After working out your body needs carbohydrates to replenish muscle glycogen stores, and protein to support muscle repair. To replenish muscle glycogen, which is depleted during long or difficult workouts, you’ll want to have some carbs after your workout. While simple options include trail mix that has both dried fruits and nuts, toast with nut butter or a simple smoothie would also work.

For a more convenient option, take Vega Sport Recovery after your session to help replenish glycogen stores and get you ready for whatever comes at you next.

WHAT’S IN IT?

Premium Carbohydrates

Whole grain brown rice sweetener is a simple carbohydrate that helps replenish muscle glycogen post-workout. Muscle glycogen, which is the carbohydrate energy stored in muscles,  can become depleted during long or  intense workouts.

VEGA SPORT PROTEIN

Tissue and cell regeneration is an ongoing process, beyond just during our workouts.  Our body converts the protein consumed in our diets into amino acids to be used to repair and rebuild muscles which is especially important after a workout. After you finish exercising, it’s important to consume amino acids, which you get through protein.

Amino acids that you may choose to focus a bit more heavily on are the branched chain amino acids or BCAAs. These are leucine, isoleucine and valine and they help transition the body from breaking down of muscle during exercise to repairing and rebuilding

With Vega Sport Protein you get 30g of plant-based protein, plus plant-based ingredients specifically curated to support post-workout recovery.

WHAT’S IN IT?

PLANT-BASED PROTEIN

Help rebuild muscle with 30g plant-based protein. We use a multisource blend of pea, alfalfa, pumpkin seed, and organic sunflower seed protein. That includes 5g BCAAs: leucine, isoleucine, and valine.
