Considered “Earth Month”, April is when I feel most connected to our planet. I’m mindful and appreciative of the warm breeze, aroma of fresh flowers, and green landscape that had been dormant during winter. And with that appreciation, I’m more motivated to change my daily lifestyle to preserve those pleasantries. There are many ways to become more green or eco-friendly; however, rather than attempting to start a new habit, I’ve found that modifying my current lifestyle patterns is more sustainable for me. As a daily Vega One™ enthusiast, I’ve found some simple and fun ways to make my daily smoothie more green (both literally and figuratively!).
- Add Greens (Obviously!)
Although adding greens to your smoothie seems obvious, not all greens are created nutritionally equal. To get the biggest nutritional bang for your buck, go for those greens that are rich in color. Try adding kale, spinach, wheatgrass, barley grass, Vega® Chlorella, and/or broccoli for a green smoothie that’s going to please your palate while supporting overall wellness. You can even add herbs like basil, cilantro or parsley!
- Hit the Farmers’ Market
Shopping your local farmer’s market can not only help reduce your carbon footprint, but also can allow you access to some of the best tasting produce available. Because local produce can grow until its optimal harvest time, your favorite fruits and vegetables can have an enhanced flavor and eye-catching appeal, making them perfect additions to your morning Vega One™ smoothie.
- Skip the Cow’s Milk

Look for the unsweetened varieties at your local market.
- Hop on a Blender Bike
Unless you’ve already seen one of these at a local Vega event, you may be unfamiliar with this genius invention: the blender bike. Using your body’s energy to prepare a smoothie is a great way to raise your heart rate while lowering your electricity bills.
Whether shopping for ingredients at your local farmers’ market or saving electricity by blending it on a bike, you can start to reduce your carbon footprint. With small, daily changes we can make sustainable strides.
How are you going to “go green” this week?
