Quality Management System – Team Lead

Overview

An exciting and challenging position exists as the Quality Management Systems (QMS) – Team Lead at Vega’s head office in Burnaby, BC. Reporting to QA Document Control Manager, the QMS Team Lead will be responsible for overseeing and driving the daily quality-related operations such as product releases, consumer complaints, change control, finished product specifications, maintaining SOPs, establishing and trending KPIs and other QMS related operational processes.  You will also be tasked to identify and implement program efficiencies and continuous improvement, working in collaboration of the QMS Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coach and develop your a strong team
  • Contribute to and grow the culture of quality at Vega
  • Overseeing and drive the daily quality operations:
    • Product hold/releases
    • Maintain and execute stability program
    • Packaging qualification
    • Consumer complaints handling and investigations
    • Execute the surveillance testing program
    • Label development and review
    • Development and revisions to finished product specifications
    • Organoleptic testing program
    • Supporting Food Safety and Facility Management functions within the Quality department
  • GFSI certification for Vega HQ
    • Maintaining and updating SOPs, SAGs and Policies
    • Addressing audit observations in a timely manner
  • Improve upon Vega’s documentation system and programs
  • Establish and trend KPIs to identify priorities and areas for continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with cross functional departments to deliver on innovation projects
  • Train staff members on procedures and systems to maintain the high quality standards of Vega products
  • Ability to be available for adhoc calls on weekends/evenings if needed
  • Other duties as assigned by QA Document Control Manager

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree required
  • 5 years of experience in a supervisor or leadership role in Quality Assurance for Foods, Natural Health Products and/or Dietary Supplements
  • Knowledgeable of the Canadian Food & Drug Acts and Regulation, specifically in Food and Natural Health Products; and FDA regulations for Food and Dietary Supplements
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is a strong asset
  • Experience working with 3rd party manufacturers
  • Experience establishing a quality assurance program and documentation system
  • Expertise with food safety standards and regulations (HACCP and GFSI standards)
  • Auditing experience an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
  • Experience working with an ERP system, SharePoint is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and self-disciplined individual
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Strong follow-up, organization, and prioritization skills across quality, food safety and business priorities
