Creating a Vision Board: Thriving With Vision

If you’ve visited the Vega Blog lately you’ve probably noticed we’ve been talking about goals. Whether fitness related, health related, or general life goals, as Vegatopians we take both professional and personal goals quite seriously. These goals start with a vision and most Vegatopians start their Vega journey by setting that vision. With a vision in mind, and a physical reminder of that vision, you can more easily set goals that are S.M.A.R.T and goals that add meaning, purpose and drive to your life. That’s where a vision board can be a helpful tool.

Why Should I Create a Vision Board?

Vision boards help draw clarity around our aspirations, ambitions and desires. Being able to visualize our ultimate dreams and aspirations is the first step in working towards them. It allows us to make a plan and guides us in setting more specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely (S.M.A.R.T) goals. The idea is that when you have a daily visual reminder of the direction you want to head in life, you make daily life choices and changes that progress you further along that larger path. A vision board is just that – your visual reminder. It’s usually a collage of images, quotes, pictures and affirmations of all the things that help you thrive in life and make you happy. It helps you stay positive, stay the course, and reminds you of the bigger picture.

How-To Guide for creating a Vision Board

1. Prepare your space and set the tone

Set the mood by turning on some favorite music, making some calming tea, and lighting a few candles, or whatever else you do to get your inspiration and creativity flowing.

2. Gather vision boarding supplies

Collect many different magazines, and catalogs to source inspiration from. You can also search for images online and print them out. Choose what type of board or size of paper you wish to build you vision board on. Find your scissors and glue. If you’re not the crafting type, but you’re a whiz with computer graphics, collect your images digitally, then open your favorite graphics program, set your page size, and go to town.

3. Start clipping

Start by pouring through all resources and clipping any word, image, saying that resonated with you. If it moves you, or if it reminds you of something, clip it – even if you’re not sure it’s right for this particular vision board.

4. Sort and stick

Once you’ve clipped, sort through your images and choose which ones are most applicable to the theme of your board. From there, glue them onto your board—or play with your digital collage until you’re happy with it.

5. Hang up your vision board

Hang your board someplace that will allow it to inspire you daily. If you’ve made your vision board in a digital format, it’s worth printing it out to hang it where you can see it every day.

Prefer a more 21st century option but aren’t comfortable making digital graphics from scratch? Many people use a websites such as Pinterest or tumblr to create a virtual vision board. Pinterest opens the door to thousands of images, ideas and inspirations across the web and the beauty of a virtual board is that you can access it anywhere, at any time, and that it can continue to evolve and change as you do. With your vision board close at hand, may you continue to reach and surpass your goals.
